How to Deal with Feeling Drained and Burned Out: What to Do When You Push Yourself Too Hard

Feeling drained and burned out is a common experience for many individuals, especially when the demands of life seem overwhelming. In this blog post, I will share my personal story and offer insights on how to effectively deal with these feelings. I have recently found myself in a situation where I was pushing myself beyond my limits, both physically and mentally. I have learned valuable lessons on the importance of listening to my body, setting boundaries, and finding rejuvenation. If you've ever felt drained and burned out, this blog post is for you.

When it's not other people telling me to push through, it is me who's telling me to push through. And that's fucking sucks sometimes. It is crucial to acknowledge that we live in a society that often glorifies busy-ness and productivity. However, pushing yourself too hard can have detrimental effects on your physical and mental well-being. When your body or mind is feeling numb or tired, it is time to back off.

For women, our natural cycles can have a significant impact on our energy levels and overall well-being. These cycles can affect our interactions with others and our ability to handle social demands. It's essential to acknowledge and respect these cycles, especially during challenging times. I experienced this firsthand during my recent trip to Stockholm, where I was with friends 24/7 and at the same time had the most mentally and physically low phase of my cycle.  I honestly think, sometimes it is totally worth it to deal with the empty battery later. This time I made a conscious choice to do so, when most of the time I consciously decide to put my own health first....

To effectively deal with feeling drained and burned out, it's crucial to set boundaries and prioritize self-recharge. During my challenging week, I had multiple commitments and goals for my business that seemed overwhelming. However, I had to make a conscious decision to prioritize my well-being. I stepped back from social appointments, deleted tasks from my calendar, and took time for myself. For me, spending time outdoors, engaging in activities I love, such as horseback riding and working in the garden, became essential rejuvenating practices. So what are your activities to recharge? Do those when you feel tired or drained.

Feeling drained and burned out is a clear sign that your body and mind need a break. It's crucial to listen to your body and practice self-compassion during these times. Pushing through may seem like a tempting option, but it often leads to decreased productivity, slower progress, and potential negative consequences for your well-being. Instead, take the time to recharge, prioritize self-care activities, and engage in activities that bring you joy and relaxation. By doing so, you'll be able to perform better in the long run.

Feeling drained and burned out is a common experience, but it's important to address it effectively to maintain your well-being and achieve your goals. By recognizing the importance of self-care, understanding the influence of personal cycles, and setting boundaries, you can better navigate these challenging times. Remember to listen to your body, practice self-compassion, and engage in activities that bring you joy and rejuvenation. Ultimately, taking care of yourself will enable you to lead a more balanced and fulfilling life.

If you resonated with this blog post, I encourage you to share it with others who may benefit from these insights. Together, we can create a world where self-care and well-being are valued.
